Boy Scout Sex Abuse
According to records of the Boy Scouts of America, more than 12,000 children have been sexually assaulted by nearly 8,000 scout leaders while participating in scouting programs. Boy Scouts of America has known about this sexual abuse for decades. They have had a secret file of sexually abusive and perpetrator scoutmasters within their organization. Boy Scouts of America failed to protect their young members. Repeat offenders were allowed to remain within the Boy Scouts organization. Boy Scouts of America allowed men accused of child molestation to lead Boy Scout troops.
You Can File a Sex Abuse Claim
On February 14, 2019, New York state governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed the Child Victims Act into law. This legislation allows victims of sex abuse crimes to begin a civil lawsuit at any time before they reach 55 years of age. The law also gives all abuse survivors, regardless of their current age, one year to file a civil claim in New York for the abuse they suffered. A major barrier that protected sexual abusers—in the Boy Scouts and elsewhere—has finally been removed!
