Jehovah’s Witness Sexual Abuse
The Jehovah’s Witness organization put its reputation before the well-being of child sexual abuse victims. The Jehovah’s Witness organization was more concerned with its brand than protecting children who were sexually abused by its elders.
The Jehovah’s Witnesses organization is cloaked in secrecy. It discouraged its members from reporting sexual abuse to outside authorities. Church elders were told to report cases of abuse directly to leaders, rather than go to police. This enabled child predators continued access to their child sexual abuse victims.
Not only were child sex abusers not turned over to the police, but the Jehovah’s Witness organization also took steps to discourage victims of sexual abuse. Leaders adhered to a two-witness rule, which essentially means two people must report the sexual abuse. One child’s allegations of sexual abuse was not enough.
The Jehovah’s Witness organization also shamed victims who came forward. They cut the victims off from the outside world. They even required the child to confront their alleged abuser. The emotional trauma caused by the sexual abuse was exacerbated by the reaction of the Jehovah’s Witnesses organization.
Have you suffered any of the following at the hands of Elders within the Jehovah’s Witness organization:
- Groping
- Touching
- Fondling
- Indecent photos and/or videos
- Shown inappropriate photos and/or videos
- Sexually explicit talk
- Rape
Thanks to the New York’s Child Victims Act, victims of Jehovah’s Witness sexual abuse can finally seek justice. Victims of Jehovah’s Witness sexual abuse are entitled to justice against the church for failing to protect children from known child sex predators.
