NYS Adult Survivors Act: Reviving Adult Sexual Abuse Claims
The Adult Survivors Act (ASA) was signed into law in May 2022. This new legislation creates a one-year look-back period for adult victims of sexual abuse. This allows victims to bring a lawsuit even if the abuse occurred years ago and the time to bring a sexual abuse lawsuit had expired. The lookback period begins in November 2022, six months after the ASA was signed.
The New York sexual abuse lawyers at Greenstein & Milbauer, LLP have represented hundreds of victims against employers, churches, schools, and municipalities under the Child Victims Act. We are now committed to seeking justice for adult sexual abuse victims under the Adult Survivors Act (ASA).
Who Can Sue Under the ASA?
Many victims of sexual violence do not initially report the sexual abuse because they are embarrassed, ashamed, or afraid to reveal that they have been abused. By the time they finally came forward, the time to file a lawsuit has already expired.
With the passage of the Adult Survivors Act (ASA), adult sexual abuse victims can finally hold the perpetrators, and institutions who protected them, accountable. Because of this, it’s important to know who’s responsible for the suffering and abuse you’ve experienced.
If you have been harmed by any of the following individuals or institutions, please let us help you pursue compensation for your damages:
- George Tyndall, gynecologist at the University of Southern California (USC)
- Richard Strauss, team physician at Ohio State University
- Larry Nassar, head athletic doctor at Michigan State University (MSU)
- Reginald Archibald, Rockefeller University Hospital
- The Catholic Church
- Residential care or group homes
- Law enforcement
- Harvey Weinstein
- Bill Cosby
- Massage Envy and other spas or massage parlors
- Hospitality industry
- Rideshare services like Lyft or Uber
